teleSys Software Completes Successful Deployment of SS7-IP Gateway In AT&T's Wireless Service Network

February 13, 2001
Burlingame, California

teleSys Software Inc today announced the completion of a successful launch of teleSys Software's MACH7-IP Gateway, which is used to interface with AT&T Wireless Office Service customer premise equipment. The MACH7-IP Gateway is currently tested and deployed in the AT&T Wireless network. MACH7-IP Gateway moves the power of SS7 to a TCP/IP-based client/server environment, allowing unlimited worldwide separation of wireless-office controllers. This architecture provides affordable and secure SS7 connectivity for wireless-service providers.

The teleSys MACH7-IP Gateway is based on a highly available architecture that virtually eliminates lost network messages and brings availability to internetworking applications. This concept, which teleSys developed and deployed using distributed MTP-3, eliminates lost signaling traffic. The MACH7-IP Gateway runs on a pair of Sun Netra T-1125 using the Solaris operating environment. The core SS7 signaling software incorporates Trillium’s source code, which enhances and extends the signaling capabilities of telecommunications networks.

AT&T Wireless Office Service gives subscribers a single-phone, single-number system that serves as a wireless-office phone on the enterprise-phone network, and automatically connects to the local-wireless network outside the office. The system allows users to make and receive calls, utilizing all the features of their office phones (such as call transfer and forwarding, 4- or 5-digit dialing, and three-way calling) with a wireless phone anywhere in a building or campus environment. Calls within range of the system incur no per-minute airtime charges.

"AT&T Wireless is the industry leader with in-building systems, and by deploying into their network after stringent testing, teleSys has achieved a significant acceptability of its product as the de facto industry standard for IP Gateways," said Bobby Bahl, CEO of teleSys Software. "We have achieved compatibility with all major players in the industry for WOS controllers, which allows service providers greater flexibility when providing service to the end user.

“This combined effort now presents service providers with a complete telecommunications solution to enable the deployment of new and enhanced communication applications," said Frank Morese, vice president of marketing for Trillium Digital Systems, Inc.. Trillium’s technology enabled the development of a high-performing solution that can be easily implemented, which will speed up their customers time-to-market.”

"This alliance between teleSys and Sun Microsystems gives telecom service providers one of the best performing Network Equipment Building System (NEBS) complaint platforms on which to deploy SS7 applications for demanding services like AT&T Wireless Office Service," says Thomas Cheng, market development manager for Sun Microsystems.

"We fully expect our release of the SS7-IP Gateway to create a major business opportunity for our company over the next few years, and will confirm teleSys Software's position as a major player and supplier for wireless carriers," says Ajit Sadarangani, vice president of sales & marketing for teleSys Software.
